Madeline's Lot
I decided to work on a project with some kind of focus. My neighbour, Madeline Playter, and her family owned a significant amount of property in the hood but, piece by piece the estate has had to sell it off to pay taxes. In the past week, the extraordinary empty property, which was her view from her porch has undergone the beginnings of a brutal transformation.
I've decided to try and chronicle the event and my neighbourhood as we watch progress uproot heritage.

phonegirlYou're a smart girl! It's the house itself that's protected. This house is the original property. Madeline's house is just to the north about an acre. It's the property in between the two houses that's being developed.May 24, 2004from the photo: Playter Farmhouse Historic Designation -
phonegirlIt is. I'd be surprised if it's original, though. There was a wedding there, yesterday (in the downpour) and they shot off firecrackers until 1am.May 24, 2004from the photo: Front View of the Farmhouse -
phonegirlthey were the little flags that kids would have gotten when the Queen/Queen Mom would have come to town OR Canada Day/Dominion Day, I suppose...heck, even Queen Victoria Day. Thanks for checking this out.May 24, 2004from the photo: Madeline's side porch -
exleftistIf it is protected property, how were they able to sell off the property? Or is it just the house? As in, the road could come up to the steps as long as the house was still standing?May 23, 2004from the photo: Playter Farmhouse Historic Designation -
exleftistAwww ... that's so sweet. No one has flags anymore.May 23, 2004from the photo: Madeline's side porch -
